ABGee! The Arterial Blood Gas Learning Program (Version 5) by Donald A. Thompson, RN, MSN NursePerfect Software, Raleigh, NC Released 2004 ABGee! is an interactive computer program that presents basic information on arterial blood gases (ABG). The program gives users opportunities to develop, refine, and test their skills in working with ABG vocabulary and data. Upon completion of the program, users should be able to: list normal values and ranges for pH, pCO2, and HCO3-; briefly define the following conditions and indicate their associated lab values: (1) acidemia, (2) alkalemia, (3) metabolic acidosis, (4) respiratory acidosis, (5) metabolic alkalosis, and (6) respiratory alkalosis; describe the process of compensation; state the major clinical significance of abnormal anion and osmolar gaps; list the approximate normal value for the anion gap; and interpret any given set of arterial blood gas values.
