VIDEO

Detailed video supports all aspects of Labor and Delivery. Apgar scoring of the newborn is demonstrated. A Ceasarean section is shown in Managing a Complication. The all-encompassing nature of this program makes it an excellent teaching tool.

Managing the Experience of Labor and Delivery
by Barbara Gilman, RN, MSN; Elizabeth Weiner, RN, PhD; and Jeffry Gordon, PhD
University of Cincinnati Medical Center, College of Nursing and Health, Cincinnati, OH
Released 2003

This program simulates a normal labor and delivery, beginning with the introduction of the laboring patient and her husband as she is being admitted to the hospital. The student is required to select information for assessing the patient and is sometimes required to actively participate in collecting data. As labor progresses, the student selects appropriate interventions based on identified nursing diagnoses. There are three distinct sections of the program presented at the main menu:

1) beginning of admission,

2) beginning of labor,

3) beginning of delivery

There are other entry options which allow the student to enter the program at numerous other points, such as delivery, immediate postpartum, and at a complication that results in a Caesarean section.

CD-ROM, program time is 2 - 4 hours 203-CD-024
